Dental Implants

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are root-shaped, metal anchors that are embedded under your gums and supported by your jaw bone. Bridges or dentures designed to function like natural teeth are secured over these implants.

Prosthodontic and restoration expert Dr. Castaneda installs dental implants for men and women who are missing teeth, allowing them to talk, chew, and function normally.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

The tooth’s crown is the visible part. The tooth’s root anchors the crown to your jawbone and provides it with strong support.

When you lose a tooth, your jawbone starts shrinking. Crowns, or removable dentures secured with dental implants, stops your jawbone from shrinking. Dental implants also:

  • Resemble natural teeth
  • Prevent decay
  • Increase self-confidence
  • Restore proper chewing

Who needs dental implants?

If you have a healthy jawbone and are missing one or more teeth, you’re a candidate for dental implants.

If you're missing only one or two teeth, dental implants can eliminate the need for grinding down adjacent teeth to support a conventional bridge. If you’re missing multiple teeth, a full mouth reconstruction featuring dental implants can eliminate the need for cumbersome dentures.

What is the process for installing dental implants?

First, Dr. Castaneda determines if you have an adequate jawbone to anchor a dental implant, and ensures it’s the best treatment for your smile restoration. Then she creates a digital model of your mouth, which she sends to her ceramics expert in Beverly Hills.

After her ceramicist has created the implant and sent it to her, she installs it in your mouth. After two to six months, when it has healed, she cements your new crown in place.

In some instances, Dr. Castaneda may determine you can get your teeth installed the same day as your implants. Not everyone is a good candidate for this, though. It can compromise the healing process and result in failed implants. Rest assured, however: Dr. Castaneda is an expert at determining the best course of prosthodontic treatment for your situation.

Can I get teeth in one day?

In some instances, Dr. Castaneda may determine you can get your teeth installed the same day as your implants. Not everyone is a good candidate for this, though. It can compromise the healing process and result in failed implants. Rest assured, however: Dr. Castaneda is an expert at determining the best course of prosthodontic treatment for your situation.
