Types of Implants
There are four types of Dental Implant. These are The Endosseous implant, The Subperiosteal Implant, the Transosseous implant and the Ramusframe implant.
The Endosseous Implant: This type of Dental Implant is made of titanium which fuses with the natural bone easily. The Endosseous Implant is actually placed in a hole drilled in the bone and are then allowed to integrate with the bone. Some times implants are plasma coated with hydroxyapetite (teeth enamel is made of hydroxapetite).
The Transosseous Implant: This type of Dental Implant is used for persons who cannot retain lower dentures and have lower toothless ridges. This implant is inserted from underneath the lower jawbone through two holes drilled completely through the bone. The flat plate at the bottom is screwed to the underside of the chinbone. The two long pins on either side stick up through the lower gums. This type of implant is not commonly used.
