Decay Detectors.
Numerous technologies, including stains and appliances, are available
to better detect decay on teeth. Only after 30% of the mineral is lost in
a tooth, will decay appear on an x-ray.
The Midwest Caries I.D.™ Detection Handpiece is an exciting new
technology that emits LED light, which passes through the enamel rods designed to detect the earliest stages of tooth decay to help dentists
stop cavities in their tracks.
This Detection Handpiece uses three separate fibers, emitting different
LED lights absorbed into the tooth. The LED light will be reflected, refracted
or scattered. If the red light is illuminated and an audible tone is heard,
there is a change in tooth structure and possible decay.
